Get Out Of Your Car and Take A Look Inside The Acura Engine

Acura_engine

Acura is known for luxury, performance and service. Some of the most beautiful cars in the world roll off of the Acura assembly line. But you can see the mean streak these beauties have if you just raise the hood. When you get 300+ horsepower in a luxury sedan, SUV or wagon, nothing but fun is ahead. Let’s take a look under the hood of some favorites:

The MDX features Acura’s largest engine, which offers a remarkable combination of power, efficiency and refinement. The 3.7-liter VTEC V-6 delivers 300 horsepower and 270 lbs.-ft. of torque. The Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control (VTEC) increases high-rpm horsepower by opening the intake valves deeper and longer when engine speed reaches a designated rpm. The EPA has estimated the mileage is 16 in the city and 21 on the highway, which, combined with a 21-gallon fuel capacity, gives the MDX the potential for attaining a 400-mile or more cruising range. The Drive-by-Wire throttle system varies throttle sensitivity to provide the appropriate throttle response and feel to different driving conditions. The lightweight magnesium-alloy cylinder head covers with hardened aluminum cylinder sleeves help improve vehicle balance and the power-to-weight ratio. A forged crankshaft results in lower weight and increased strength, and a high-flow exhaust system increases the engine’s power efficiency.

The ZDX boasts a 3.7liter engine with SOHC (Single Overhead Camshaft) VTEC and 24-valves. This V-6 delivers 300 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 270 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm.

This Acura has a Compression ratio of 11.2 and Redlines at 6800 RPM. The throttle control is, again, the Drive-by-Wire throttle system. The ignition is electronic direct and the EPA has estimated fuel mileage at 16 in the city, 23 on the highway and 19 combined. The required fuel is premium unleaded 91 octane. That gives a CARB emission rating of ULEV-2. If you are already thinking about service, then there is no need to worry for quite a while. The tune-up interval is simply amazing. There a no scheduled tune-ups required on the Acura ZDX for 100,000 +/- miles.

2011 Acura RL

With the Acura RL we are looking at a 3.7 liter, 24 valve engine that delivers 271 lb.-ft. of torque @ 5,000RPM; Limited slip differential and a V 6 Cylinder configuration. Included in the package is a variable valve control system. The EPA has rated the fuel economy 17 mpg in the stop and go of the city and 24 when cruising down the highway. The fuel capacity is about 19.5 gallons. That gives you a cruise radius of a little over 450 miles. You get all of this and 300 horsepower at 6300 rpm.

Sit back and enjoy the drive with a beautiful Acura. Each of these delivers the luxury, performance and service of an Acura. For more information see your local Acura dealer.
