Setting New Standards: The New 2012 Mercedes-Benz AMG Biturbo V8 Engine Hits Chandler, Arizona Dealerships This Summer

Unveiled last year at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, the new Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG will be one of the first 2012 Mercedes-Benz models to sport the much anticipated AMG 5.5 liter V8 biturbo engine. This new engine has again raised the industry standard for incredible sport performance and improved fuel efficiency. Phoenix drivers should mark their calendars for summer 2011 when the first models will be arriving in their local Chandler, Arizona Mercedes-Benz dealership.

AMG V8 Engine Raises the Bar Again

So what makes the new Mercedes-Benz AMG V8 engine so impressive? Everything. It boasts an eight cylinder powerhouse (known internally as the M157) capable of 525 horsepower in standard models and an incredible 557 horsepower with the AMG performance package. At a dry weight of 450 lbs, the engine also features a new spray guided gasoline injection, piezo ceramic injectors capable of more controlled injection events, an all-aluminum crankcase, and an air / water cooling system. It also implements four valve technology with camshaft adjustment, and runs on a new ECO start / stop system that automatically switches the engine off when the car comes to a stop while the engine is set to ECO mode. This system also allows the vehicle to shift earlier, avoid high engine speeds, and will always start off in second gear when the transmission is set to “C” mode. Models that feature the AMG performance package also boast a carbon fiber engine cover and weight-optimized AMG exhaust system with dual chrome tailpipes that release a distinctive growl from the engine that lets other drivers know this is more than your average luxury sedan.

Combine all of this with a 7 speed sports transmission with AMG MCT Technology and you have one crazy powerful engine. The transmission uses an innovative compact wet-starter clutch rather than the old torque converter system. Thanks to the MCT technology, this engine is capable an astounding torque output of 516 lb-ft on standard models or ridiculous output of 590 lb-ft with the AMG performance package. With this kind of power, you will have no trouble leaving everyone in the dust as you roar down any interstate in Arizona. The only problem drivers will have is maintaining a legal speed since this car is capable of running 0-60 in 4.4 seconds or 4.3 seconds with the AMG performance package and reaches an impressive 155 mph or 186 mph top speed respectively. That is over twice the legal limit on most Phoenix highways.

Improved Fuel Efficiency

With such impressive performance stats, you would never think this car was also setting fuel efficiency records, but think again. Mercedes-Benz claims that the new CLS AMG will be almost 33% more fuel efficient that older models, and should average 16 mpg city / 23 mpg highway. With numbers like these, you will soon be planning a trip from Phoenix to Mexico just to enjoy its thrilling performance.

Set to release in June, the new model will be available at Mercedes-Benz of Chandler where you can see and test it for yourself!
