Putting the Sport, back in Utility Vehicles- The 2011 BMW X5 35d SUV

For those who value one sweetheart of an engine, we introduce the 2011 BMW X5. The X5 xDrive 35d handles better than any 2.6 ton machine should. Extremely capable breaks will inspire poise no matter the scenario; and the transmission works with commendable intuitiveness.

The BMW X5 was this German automaker's first appearance onto the luxury SUV scene, and they certainly rolled out the red carpet. BMW engineered the X5 for on-road performance and handling. Short overhangs, a compact size (the original was 4.5 inches shorter than the 5 Series sedan of the same time period) and a car-based chassis collectively give the X5 its low posture and marvelous on-road performance. The X5, manufactured on American soil at BMW's first American plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, has wasted no time knocking the ball out of the park for BMW.

Redesigned for the 2007 model year, the second-generation X5 draws striking comparisons to its predecessor, but with added seating. An optional third-row seat and allows the X5 to comfortably feature room for seven, paired with additional cargo capacity. Do not fear that this growth will hinder the X5’s fun factor; it is still a very entertaining luxury SUVs. The BMW X5 is a superior choice, new or used.

The BMW X5 is available in three variants: X5 xDrive35i, X5 xDrive50i and X5 xDrive35d. The term "xDrive" refers to the standard all-wheel-drive system that greatly improves the X5's all-weather competence. The X5 xDrive35d features a fuel-efficient turbodiesel inline-6 that produces 265 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic comes standard.

BMW is the world’s best engineer of straight six cylinder engines. This 3.0-liter oil burner perpetuates that legend. Packing 265 horsepower and a thundering 425 pound feet of torque, the 35d ignites the 5,225 pound X5 from rest to 60 miles per hour in less than seven seconds– simultaneously delivering 26 miles per gallon on the highway. Using Detroit’s favorite mpg calculation, the 22.5 gallon tank could carry you nearly 600 miles before empty.

All-wheel drive and an optional third-row seat help the X5 offer a reasonable amount of utility. This soccer mom or dad friendly SUV features a high body and plenty of sportability. While many automakers have attempted to replicate the BMW X5, this BMW remains very attractive for those believe the "S" in SUV should actually mean something.

The interior fixtures are quite sharp in BMW's biggest and newest SUV, offering comfortable seating for the driver and rear passengers. Craftsmanship is stellar, and materials top of the line. Despite its former criticisms, the iDrive system is now one of the better electronics interfaces on the market.
